A FINE GEORGE III SATINWOOD, AMARANTH AND MARQUETRY COMMODE BY GILLOWS, CIRCA 1790.
Each of the four doors inlaid with a conch shell.
In 1788, Gillows supplied a satinwood and amaranth commode to John Christian for Workington Hall, Cumbria. This commode is identical to our commode in all respects except that the inlay of the ovals differs. See Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 2008, pp.14-16 and plates 538-543.
