James Lees Milne (1908-1997) by whom bequeathed to Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire (1920-2014)


Literature:
The Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth, The House, 2002, p.187: ‘James Lees-Milne left me the marble dogs [formally installed in the Tapestry Gallery at Chatsworth] by an anonymous sculptor. They are the kind of furry mongrels you see in every French village. These two are playing for ever, one standing over its friend, open mouthed and tail wagging.’
