Chippendale kneehole desk

A fine George III mahogany kneehole desk attributed to Thomas Chippendale, circa 1775.

With original ‘axe handles’. The attribution rests with the existence of an identical ‘bureau dressing-table’ (with partitioned frieze drawer) made for the Buff Bedroom at Paxton. The present bureau also has the blockwork feet and red oxide wash on the carcase wood, as well as short-grain kickers and canted drawer-stops, all typical of Chippendale’s workshop practice.
